  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup stout beer such as Guinness
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • For the ganache:
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup stout beer
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350F 175C

Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt

In another bowl, whisk together the stout beer, melted butter, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract until well combined

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until the batter is smooth

Stir in the chocolate chips

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes

Then, remove it from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack

While the cake is cooling, prepare the ganache

In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer

Remove from heat and add the chopped semisweet chocolate

Let it sit for a minute, then whisk until smooth

Stir in the stout beer and powdered sugar until the ganache is well combined

Once the cake is completely cool, pour the ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides

Serve the delicious Chocolate Stout Cake and enjoy
